Fashion is a huge part of my life. I keep up to date with the latest trends, purchasing 'LOOK' magazine weekly and also receiving emails from various shops such as Topshop, River Island and also New Look. I am a polite, friendly and courteous person who is very knowledgeable on the fashion front. I am also very driven and set out to succeed my goals in life.
I have applied for this course as I have known since leaving high school that I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. This course in particular I feel is right for me as I am aware the university has strong links with the fashion industry and during my time studying there I will be introduced to these. I believe this is important as you will make yourself known and make contacts.
My first piece of work is a textiles piece I produced independently. It shows two photo's of my friends and I, and also machine embroidery, hand sewn buttons and various stitches. I made this piece to show my sewing skill's. The next five pieces, including repeat pattern, batik, felt making, paper making and fabric folding, were all part of my materials, techniques and processes unit in my first year of college. I really enjoyed making all five of these. Especially the felt making and paper making pieces as they take time and effort to produce. The next piece of work is a mood board for my fashion unit, this shows my research for tribal themed products. The tribal theme was inspired by the jungle environment as I choose the issue of recycled paper and global warming. This drawing of a shirt was drawn with ink using a paint brush. This was also drawn for my fashion unit and I think the piece shows how I can draw clothes realistic. The last three drawings are from my life drawing unit and I think these are very strong and show my skills well. The first two are pencil and the last is chalk and charcoal.
